Events Coming Up

At UVM Buddhism Club we try to do different activities each meeting and always including a concluding meditation. We are a new club and are hoping to have meetings to learn about Dharma and the history of Buddhism alongside activities like mindfulness walks, volunteer work, and crafts.

Trash Cleanups

Gautama Buddha written guidelines to “Go ye bhikkus [wandering monks], and wander forth for the good of the many, for the welfare of the many, in compassion for the world, for the good, for the gain, for the welfare of gods and people” [Vinaya Mahavagga].

In the Salmon Hole along the Winooski River, we will help clean up the area for the health of those living nearby and the affected wildlife.

Previous Events

See what we've gotten up to in the past and if you want to go to an event again let us know!

The Depiction of Buddha in Art

Here we will explore why Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) among other Buddhas throughout history were depicted in certain postures, snails on his head..etc. Then we will do finger painting to explore the sensation of art with our new found understanding of previous interpretations in Buddhism.

Walking Meditation

Here we explored how the many branches, including Theravada and Mahayana, view walking as a mindful practice. We walked around campus and then practiced giving back to the earth through the guidance of Thich Nhat Hahn's words.

Buddhism & Yoga

Contrary to a lot of Western depictions, yoga is not just poses, but a comprehensive belief system and philosophy. Yoga and Buddhadharma are two paths that developed independently of one another, though they share similarities! The Eightfold Path of Buddhism and the 8 Limbs of Yoga are both ancient Indian frameworks for achieving liberation from one’s suffering, though they do so in different ways.
