Community Guidelines

In all interactions we encourage you to follow the Bodhisattva precepts and the spirit of mindful communication. These guidelines are here to help maintain a respectful and supportive space for everyone:

    Sangha Etiquette

    • Practice Right Speech: Assume that no one has ill intent in their words. If something is unclear or seems troubling, seek clarification before jumping to conclusions. Speak with the aim of understanding one another and bringing a sense of care to every conversation.  Specifics from the Vaca Sutta (AN 5.198):
      • It is spoken at the right time.
      • It is spoken in truth.
      • It is spoken affectionately.
      • It is spoken beneficially.
      • It is spoken with a mind of good-will.
    • Be Respectful: Treat others with kindness, empathy, and respect, recognizing the importance of our shared practice.
    • Support Each Other: Be friendly and offer help when needed, creating an environment of mutual support.
    • Protect Silence: During daily sittings, the Zazenkai, or any formal practice session, minimize distractions by muting your microphone and avoiding unnecessary movement or noise.
    • Mindful Participation: Avoid interrupting or disrupting events, including voice channels. Arrive a few minutes early to settle in for practice sessions, and if joining late, do so quietly.
    • Confidentiality: Respect the privacy of others, particularly in sensitive discussions during Dharma talks or practice groups.
    • No Self-Promotion or Spam: The Sangha is a space for spiritual practice and connection, not for advertising or self-promotion.
    • No NSFW Content: Please refrain from sharing inappropriate content that could disrupt the peaceful and respectful atmosphere of the Sangha.

    General Guidelines for Participation

    • Balance Your Involvement: Participate at a level that feels helpful for your practice and manageable within your life. There’s no pressure to always be here or contribute all the time—just engage when it feels supportive for you.
    • Respect Boundaries: Honor your own needs and limits, as well as those of others.
    • Open Access: Anyone is welcome to participate at any level, and there’s no judgment about how frequently or deeply you engage with the sangha.
    • No Obligation: If you’ve been away for a while or haven’t participated much, there’s no need to feel guilty or disconnected. The sangha is here for you whenever you’re ready to return.
